depends on what you like about deathspell
if you love their angular, dissonant riffing and their intense, almost suffocating metal passages, like me, then this is probably their best
if you like their slower, denser, more experimental/whathaveyou side of things, then this one actually has little to offer

Well put. I do prefer their weirder side overall, but this is stellar and remarkably dense. Definitely a highlight of the year.

3rd favorite, behind Paracletus and Chaining the Katechon, for me at least.

Fuck, I forgot how much I enjoy Deathspell Omega. Totally separate from the rest of the black metal pack. While every other black metal band today is so focused on the atmosphere and all that shit, they continue to keep they're focus on technicality and being absolutely pummeling. Got some death-y vibes from this as well, which makes me happy.

not only that, they're kind of the creators of this type of atmospheric-heavy black metal
|
| |
to be fair the appeal for me in this band is definitely in the compositions and musical ingenuity as opposed to atmosphere

Just wish we could have a longer LP to really dig in to.
But this serves just as well.
