"Avenged Sevenfold returned to our conscience"
late to the game, i know, but i feel like conscience definitely isn't the right word...

Excellent album, definitely a grower. Probably the most complex and proggy album they've ever written.

I already voiced my disdain for this but after a full proper listen the songs definitely work better in the context of the album. First and last ones are great in particular. Still not anything off the charts, but it's an alright album and these guys have done much worse.

Yeah, Exist is great. I was skeptical about them pulling off a 16-minute track (even with Save Me being 11 minutes), but they filled the runtime very nicely

It's too early to read all of this, but 61/61 is impressive enough for another pos.

I think the post-chorus could have been on WTF definitely but the rest of the song maybe not!

"I don't think it will change your mind, especially if what turned you off were the vocals."

I was turned off by more or less everything, every song I tried to listen to I couldn't stay focused on it because I just found it too dull for my liking. Kinda how I feel about Metallica too

Also the friends I have who are obsessed with this band, think metal is the only good genre in music. The fan base seem to have this mindset at times too, really turns me off listening to them.

to be fair though, every fanbase has it's dickheads, and back when I was a little emo-fringed shit, I was one of those dickheads

Overall I'm very happy with how this turned out. "Save Me" and "Not Ready to Die" made me think HTTK would be more or less this album, and I was very very disappointed when it was not. Just turned out to be a huge identity crisis. So glad they bounced back and made the album I always thought they could make in this particular stage of their career.

I think three spins is enough to know I'll never listen to this again.

Jesus christ, what happened to his voice? [2]

He had such a powerful voice back when their self-titled came out, and it grew stronger on Nightmare, and now it's very weak

His voice deteriorating is probably due to age. It's been almost 10 years since the s/t was released. Plus their isn't anywhere near as much layering on his vocals on this album compared to the s/t, Nightmare, and HTTK, so that's also part of it too probably.

True, they are all much older now. I always envision them as a bunch of young dudes so I always forget that they're all in their like mid 30's haha. I just miss the grit that he used to have in his voice
