i caved in. i cut down some of the gaps on itunes and listened to everything up to Light. so far this is one of the most incredible works of music ive ever heard. first impression is that its putting the incredible act 4 to shame. sounds more mature. how the hell can one person compose all this? its insane.

I also listened to I think exactly the same point as you Minty, and yeah it's absolutely phenomenal. To me it seems just a tiny bit airier and pretty than this album but I didn't listen to the whole album so who knows. The Most Cursed Hands is the track that really stood out to me

On the contrary I found the new one to be very, very dark. And more proggy. I just got completely immersed in it. I wish I had time to get through it all in one sitting because I know it would have been epic. Going to pick up the rest of it from Light onwards in a little bit.

alright its fucking official. casey crescenzo is one of history's greatest composers. i have no clue how the hell someone could write this. on my one first listen through this album i am simply blown away. i didnt think he could top act iv. this is definitely the most completely floored ive been by an album since i heard kayo dot's choirs of the eye. but even then this probably tops that. man i couldnt get the smile off my face listening to this new album. i love act 4 so much but it didnt shock me anywhere near as much as act v has.

fucking WOW

oh and gloria, light and revival, while great songs in their own right, are EASILY the least interesting songs on this album.

To be fair I was really busy when I listened to it so u are probably right Minty, you're more/better than me at being objectively analytical anyways

I hope the band does on an Act show where they play Acts I-VI in their entirety with a full orchestra in an auditorium with a bunch of actors. Never gonna happen cause the band isn't big enough but it'd be the greatest show on Earth man.

I love all the little callbacks to the earlier albums, damn son, this shit is just so well wrote it's un-fucking-real.

A full Acts I-VI show would probably need to be 2 nights, but this is the band that did the entire Color Spectrum live in one, so don't stop dreamin'

Oh yeah there'd definitely be intermissions between acts. Maybe do one act every night? I just think it'd be so cool having the whole story played out in an actual theatre like it's a play.

I've never even heard a single song by this band and Minty even has me hyped.

@freddy thank you but i wouldnt say that at all. everyones subjective experience with something is as valid as any other and what i hear as dark could easily sound airy to you because its all just something nebulous that our brains are trying to make sense of in fitting visual imagery to something purely auditory. there are definitely light moments particularly in the opener and light and a lot of the vocal harmonies in general. i just get an overall dark and swampy feel when considering the journey of the album as a whole. either way it sounds very different to act iv. where act iv was quite eclectic and scattered, act v is a lot more unified and consistent with its theme. musically it feels like its telling one cohesive story rather than a collection of short stories. musically, that is... i havent dissected the lyrics.

in tone ill say the new album is similar to O'Brothers latest album. but, just so much better and more interesting i think.

i dont wana overhype this and ruin it for people btw. i wouldnt assert that others will have the same experience with it as me. the album totally clicked with me but i could see some others perhaps not warming to it in the same way.
