The songs I disliked at first like Bluest Things and Ernest Hemingway are growing on me pretty hard. I reckon if you re-shuffled the tracklist so I Don't Like + Cigarettes weren't so early in the album and it didn't feel so frontloaded this would be on par with TGG

Not exactly related to this album but i see a lot of people hating on Madelyn. But i personally love that song so much.
|

not a bad song and it fits well into its place on TGG but noticeably subpar of course
The songs I disliked at first like Bluest Things and Ernest Hemingway are growing on me pretty hard.
agreed, starting to realise that "Bluest" is really well composed + have come to love Soupy's over-the-top vox on that song. "Thanks for the Ride" is also growing on me.

Thanks for the Ride and Bluest Things are two of the funnest jams on this imo and they're totally necessary. I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave and Patsy Cline are the weak points imo
|
| |
lol complete opposite over here; i think Brave and Patsy are really strong points.

Brave is spectacular in the second half

how can a review like this totally fail to mention Aaron West and The Roaring Twenties? This album has been massively influenced by it.

I support the (re) feature.
@eddie I don't see how aaron west had a "massive" influence" on this and I think its appropriate to not mention.

this did get featured beforehand, but who cares because this album is great.

While I'll stick with my rating, I'd say the only weak tracks are I Wanted So Badly to be Brave and Palm Reader, but the alternate version of palm reader from target as well as slow dancing with san andreas help make up for both of those
also I can hear the aaron west influence, with the 3/4 and 6/8 time signatures and I'd say cigarettes and saints could be an aaron west song if they added a banjo and took a guitar or two away

Palm Reader is the only weak spot

This album is such a grower. I didn't like it much at all on first listen and now almost every track I love

I love this album (obviously), but I can't help but think that this album has made me realize even more how much I loved TGG. I have been listening to TGG on repeat the last couple days, after listening to this on repeat for about a week and I think TGG might be a bit better than this.

Someone please explain why Palm Reader sucks, because I dig it.

Alternate version rules but the regular version is really instrumentally empty during the verses and the choruses kind of just plod along

I love the verses on Palm Reader but I'm not a big fan of the chorus.
