I go back and forth between this and Bloom, it's a close one for me

anyone else sometimes feel like devotion is their best?

I like a few tracks from that era but it doesn't tickle my pickle like pretty much everything post-Devotion.

Also, I will never understand how the average for this isn't as high as Teen Dream or Bloom's. Just doesn't make any fucking sense, this is as good if not better. Seems like there's only a small group of fans who love this album to bits like I do. Oh welllllll

well they hit it big with bloom, right? so maybe a lot of their listeners were hoping for more upbeat poppy records and instead got this down tempo shoegazey direction

Devotion is major weak sauce imo. Though I should really revisit it (and finally listen to their debut) before the new one comes out.

For me it’s really all about this album and Teen Dream, the rest of their discog can kinda fuck off. Bloom is good I guess but I almost never listen to it.

^^^^this is the correct opinion. Lazuli is oddly my favorite Beach House song with the exception of maybe Levitation but don't really listen to Bloom in general

Oooo damn I'm so jealous of that listening party, I LOVE the singles for 7 so far

I don’t get the hype for the singles, all three are like 3/5 tunes so I’m expecting a 2.5-3 for the full album.

Oh it’s not a question of whether it will be weaker than this but of how much weaker it will be.

Band are locked in a downward trajectory for me then.

Still think they should have edited down and combined the best song writing from this and lucky stars - would have been a 4-4.5 for me

Disagreed, every song here is better than every song on TYLS, they judged the best songs correctly and this is the 4.5

idk the singles are so good, esp dark spring. this is a hard 4.5 and i'm expecting 7 to be a solid 4

Boney, I’m not sure - ‘The Traveller’ and ‘Elegy to the Void’ would both be top 5 here for me, maybe top 3

‘Teen Dream’ has six or seven tunes I prefer to any of the songs on this or ‘Lucky Stars’ though

Ok, Elegy might rank alongside the bottom 3 here but that's it imo

Elegy is so incredible but I think TYLS is pretty weak otherwise
