"Revolt" might round out my top 5 from this album tbh

It's behind "Dead Inside," "Psycho," "Reapers" and "The Handler" for me

"Belly is all yellow" is silly in a way that I can actually enjoy it, unlike some other silly lyrics on this album.

Saw Muse last night.

Absolutely incredible performance and the set list was brilliant. New stuff is great live, especially Reapers and The Handler

They've always been excellent live. I'm still kicking myself for not seeing them on tour during HAARP; that was massive and they played all BHAR/Absolution stuff.

I like the tempo changes in 'Revolt' - and I think it suits their more 'stadium rock' aesthetic as a genuinely upbeat and catchy track.

I think it's probably rubbing people up the wrong way because it's just a little bit too poppy and not challenging enough considering we all know they can do better.

*cue countless people saying 'well actually I don't like it because it's shit' or some variant thereof.

All they played post Black Holes was Uprising and the new tracks they released before Drones came out. It was incredible

It's more than just a bit too poppy tbh. His vocals are irritating too. It's not the worst song they've ever done, but they just shouldn't be squandering their prime years not riffing and shredding. If they made an album that was all like Reapers/The Handler/Defector, it'd be a hard 4.5.

I think that's why the OOS/Absolution cycle was such a turning point - OOS was pretty riffy and kept ideas from start to finish, whereas Absolution was a sign that they could incorporate some of the more alternative pop concepts and still make a great album - but it seems they're going too far in the wrong direction.

I dunno, I think I just find the 'lighter' tracks less offensive than in previous efforts - 'Aftermath' I've seen described as 'this album's 'Guiding Light'' - but I wouldn't even compare them because the latter is such a poor song.

This album seems more focussed than the last two, for sure, but Absolution is IMO the best album.

Genuinely quite shocked.

Absolution or OoS are the only two answers I'd respect regarding best Muse. Even Showbiz, or BHAR (if you're in the newer school of Muse fans) but nothing out of their last 3 efforts warrants a rating higher than that of Absolution. Yikes Toondude : ( To each his own but I'm bewildered by that one.

There's not much to separate this from Absolution - sorry couldn't resist some Muse hate

I doubt anyone who's heard a Muse album start to finish can genuinely rate it a 1.0 - sure they're riddled with inconsistencies and cringe ideas but musically there is always something redeeming.

And that's me being harsh.

Absolution has infinitely more heavy riffs, is way catchier, is a more skillfully composed concept album, incorporates classical influences...this? This only aspires to that level for about three tracks in the middle, the rest in overinflated pop-rock akin to The Resistance.

If you find the entire album irritating/nauseating then surely a 1? The name of the game here is personal taste - sput isn't an objective talent show

lol, Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Absolution, and maybe it'll grow on me after a while. But idk it dragged quite a bit for me. This I had a lot more fun with despite a few bad songs. It's just me. I plan on listening to OoS at some point and I pretty much know I'll like that more than this.
