Watershed is still in my top 5 Opeth albums, actually. I love that thing

WS is great, but Opeth fails to really pack any hefty punch after this album for me.

Apart from PC, I really like all the post-GR albums.

Watershed is awesome, yeah. Wouldn't call it one of their best though. It's a bit too chaotic and all over the place for its own good.

band has worn incredibly thin for me, even the good stuff. When from MAYH came up on shuffle today and I just wasn't really digging it

Yea it's kinda an unfortunate direction but it's what they're going for and honestly you can't growl like he used to forever.

He still does it live so that's hardly an issue

it's not that i expect them to continue to make metal records w/growls and screams it's that i expect them to write and arrange good songs which they haven't done with any consistency for quite some time now

Maybe he still can but just saying I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of Mikaels mindset.

Mikael just wanted to make straightforward progressive rock after this, and had been distancing himself from metal for a decade already. He only growls live because he knows that those are most of the songs his fans want to hear in a concert.

Just found this funny little quote from another Ghost Reveries review online:

"My absolute favourite part about the vocals though was in The Grand Conjuration, when Ã…kerfeldt sings in a whispering voice. That definitely gave me butterflies in my stomach. I know it is supposed to be creepy, but it is also really hot."
