i love this album and all, but with the rating this has so far, do people on sputnik really view this as the greatest hip hop album of all time?

no they just have terrible rating criteria and aren't willing to call something a classic after they rated it "classic"

I don't know enough about hip-hop to say what the greatest is, and my actual rating for this album is currently a 4.7 (Sucks we can only rate in .5 increments) but I don't think it would be a stretch to call this one of the greatest ever.

I get the love this album is getting, but damn, this rating is the same as illmatic which has tested time. we'll see i suppose.

them making the album "5" rating synonymous with classic is kinda dumb if you love an album immediately just give it the highest rating who gives a shit if it "stands the test of time in history" or has a metric ton of influence on the genre that's all just padding irrelevant to the individual just rate for yourself.

Alright, here goes. The people that keep asking if Sputnik as a whole sees this as the greatest hip hop album of all time are looking at it the wrong way. The majority of people that rated this as a classic fall into three categories, I can almost guarantee:

1. People with extremely modern tastes: these people haven't listened to or don't feel compelled to rate "classic" albums that were released before a certain date

2. People that don't listen to much hip hop but chose something easy to glorify. And I don't mean this in a bad way because I think this album is getting every bit of attention it deserves

3. People that see this as a classic album but still hold other hip hop albums just as high a regard



Idk, I guess my point is that the hype is justified, but there aren't actually that many people trying to say this is the all time greatest hip hop album (none that I've seen anyway). You just aren't going to have an influx of votes for older classics. More casual listeners are starting to pay attention to hip hop now too. I guess there's a lot of factors. But it's funny that most of the people complaining about the average have this rated as a 4.5

i have no qualms with 5s, most people who use 5 arent thinking "oh god this is 100% a classic album to last through the ages", they just like it a lot
