the greater importance of this album from the perspective you're pointing out (which isn't necessarily one I agree with) is that a lot of those times, albums that do have pretty divisive messages about issues like racism rarely get treated well by mainstream media outlets nor do they reach quite as wide an audience as this album does. while i don't think that outweighs any criticism of how redundant the themes present are, that's where said attitude comes from.

Okay well I understand the upset. That's fine if you like it too. I just don't get the claims of it being an instant transcendent classic or something like a revolution. If a social revolution were started by a rap album it would have been done years ago by similar albums.

The thing is, when Public Enemy were active, mainstream America was scared of that side of black culture. The conversation about race in America is a pretty big issue at the moment to a lot of people. Releasing such an album at this time has the potential to resonate with a lot more people, even if it's maybe not as forward thinking as Fear of a Black Planet.

I just like it bc the beats is smooth.

the ppl who act like music alone can somehow end racism are probably the same self-flagellating white ppl who have been given all their well-deserved shit in every one of the threads ab this album on sputnik. i'll give you that that attitude is dumb.

Yeah, I'll admit that I never understood the hype over King Kunta. It's probably my least favorite on here. Still a good song, but it doesn't live up to For Free before it

How Much a Dollar Cost is still my favorite on here... pretty much a 10/5 track. And that Ronald Isley part at the end is just beautiful
