I dig some of these tunes, but I think the biggest disappointment is the concept. It's not as fleshed out as I'd hoped.

On the contrary, I believe it's as much as it should be. Not cheesy, not cry-babe, not melancholic, only bittersweet. It's s difficult to achieve a certain balance on such concepts. But the actually brilliant moments are the scream at the end of Routine and all Happy Returns.

But like where's the story? The spoken word in Perfect Life was more story than the rest of the album combined.

@ Firday13 Well, Three Years Older gives a good picture of the character's emotional situation, Perfect Life is a flash-back, Routine gives us an image of her boring everyday life (even though it confuses me a bit, she seems to have a family, but also live alone?) Home Invasion talkis about her backing up from a world she doesn't like and losing touch with reality always in front of her computer screen, Transcience I bielieve describes another memory of her young years and then we come to Happy Returns... It's not much of a story, but more of a situation and the psyche of a character. A young woman, alone, dies. Who is she, what did she do before she die, what were here last thoughts? Here are the answers.

This trancends it from a story to reality.

I'm still unable to get over how magnificent the chorus of 3 Years Older is.

@Mythodea yeah, I saw Darren's review too. He agrees with me though: the packaging tells a fuller story than the music. I get how the lyrics still "fit" the story Wilson is telling, but they're a little too ambiguous with no vivid, concrete examples. That's fine, but imo the best concept albums have stories that stand tall and proud on the music alone. Even if it's a bit confusing like Lamb, the sequence of events is very defined and a journey is clear. Basically, I enjoyed the music more than I thought, but I was let down by the concept. Fair trade I guess.

@Friday13th I see. Though Steven has stated that he doesn't give much attention to the lyrics if he thinks they fit the music, which is his priority. That's why I don't see this album as a story, but more like a mood-seter. Anyhow, opinions are what they are. I'm glad you liked it!
