yeah, sorry for not liking the same music you guyz do.

There's a lot of music that isn't really my thing but I wouldn't rate a 1.5 just because there's obviously talent behind it, even if I don't really "get it" or like it.
I have How Could I from this album, and it's great. But I think I'll get Traced In Air instead. Would that be a good choice, people who have both?

well whether the band is talented or not is irrelevant, if the music does nothing for me i'm gonna rate it low.

Traced In Air is overrated imo. I look forward to hearing what this sounds like.

Hawks: By stood the test of time, I didn't mean in a global sense, I meant for me. I've had this for less than 2 months, whereas I've had Ashes Against the Grain for almost two years and it's taken me that long to decide that it deserves a 5. I can't stand the people who give things 5's after it's been out for a day.

I can't stand the people who give things 5's after it's been out for a day
Why?
Most of my 5's were 5's like the second or third time I heard them. I find it rather easy to tell if something deserves the highest rating I can give it. It blows away almost everything else I've listened to and I don't need more than a few listens to figure that out. This Message Edited On 02.11.09

What I hate is giving something a 5 the second or third time and then having it grow off me. That's happened a lot. I tend to only give 5's if I'm confident the rating won't change for me. To me giving something a 5 that early is generated purely by the thrill of having something new, and while it may be good, I value longevity in an album more than raw "catchiness" or mind-blow-ness. Although those things are nice too.

Werd. I've dropped a couple of my 5's because over time they simply weren't quite as awesome as the 5's I have that I'm certain won't change.

That really rubs me the wrong way to do that. But to each his own. I guess I'm just really cautious with my 5 ratings, while I throw around 4.5's pretty easily.
And this is such a noob question, but how do you quote? I forgot...

lol [quote] text [ /quote] only with no space between the beginning of the second bracket and the slash.
And yeah, I know what you mean, you feel like you sorta let yourself down or something when you have to do that. I'm pretty stingy with my 4.5's too though.

Thx, dude.
And that's exactly how i feel. However, I haven't been as anal about my sputnik ratings since I got a last.fm. My charts have sort of replaced my pie chart as the measure of what I'm listening to, lol.

I have like 20 albums with 5's and like two billion albums with 4.5's.

I bet 19/20 of those 5's are CoF albums.
