They need a new album.
They need a new album better than this.
The band's career arc needs a lift at this stage

Agreed totally.

I've seen them live three times in the last five years - I just don't want them to become that band I most enjoy seeing live and I buy the latest album mainly out of loyalty. They're better than that

i LOVE this but still a change in sound would be welcome.

The only problem I have with this is how it completely changes direction for the last 3 tracks. It doesn't feel cohesive because of that. Still a great album tho

For sure it makes it feel less cohensive, but at the same time I like how it progresses over time. It's like the album gets its pieces together with the song Anathema and after that starts to drift off - kind of like a satellite. For the first 6 tracks it's revolving around the things we know Anathema for - after that it drifts off to new territory.
but yeah, it still is kind of a flaw, but I don't really mind it.
also, comment 777 so I better write something worthwhile ...
I connect with this album on a personal level. the title track in particular has been the soundtrack to a moment/time that I know I won't forget (for better or for worse). I can't help but feel like this is one of my favorite Anathema albums - even though they might have "better" ones.
Judgement is still my favorite though, and one of my favorite albums oat.

They said they'd probably move into more electronic territory. I guess the end of the album serves as the transition for that.
I want them to make darker music again, but they're all busy being happy with their lives and shit. Though I have to say this album feels more melancholic than the last 2 for sure

It has more of a night-time feeling to it. Say, Lost Song Pt. 2 sounds like walking by the beach at night, which is a difference to Weather Systems, which is way more sunny and has that kind of "airplane feeling"to it ... this still is a "happy" album in many ways, but I don't think that's a bad thing in any way. They've had their fair share of depressing music. They should do what they feel like and if it's stuff like this, I can't complain at all.

because of that contrast of light/darkness I've come to like more DS than WS, even if I think the latter has better songs.

WS totally has some darker moments, though. The Lost Child in particular is a really dark song.

it's darker than WHBWH for sure. and even that one has Universal at least.

"Lost Song Part 2" is beyond beautiful and I totally air(ed) guitar that solo in "Anathema"

I personally adore Dusk. Second half of the track is wonderful, so peaceful and soothing.

Vincent's vocal performance on Dusk is brilliant, super expressive

Thanks for bumping this man, I totally skipped over it when it came out but I really enjoyed both We're Here Because We're Here and Weather Systems. Spinning now! Exactly what I'd expect and hope for so far.

@Rik: his vocal performance throughout his career has been like that. That's what I love most about his vocals, the emotion
