Yeah, same first impressions. There's some quite innovative stuff for Crosses' standards on the LP, it's definitely not just treading old ground.

new one is better than this, some crazy shit on there. Ghost Ride might be their best song

I‘m glad that the album more or less abandons the rock influence. New alb rules

"new one is better than this, some crazy shit on there."
Yeah while I think this was one is a solid collection I was always cognizant of it being three different EP's slapped together. The new one feels much more like an album album to me.

Ghost Ride is definitely the best song they've released in a while

from the new record I like runner and invisible hand the most. Ghost ride is fun tho

Tbh I wasn't too sure about some of the songs on the new LP, but they've grown on me quite a lot.

New one has a few bangers but also a few snoozers. I like this way more even though it's pretty disjointed

why? How?
Only way I can think of is it's more consistent and less erratic. But that doesn't mean much to me. The songs on this are just better.

This one has better highlights for sure, the new one is just more consistent, with less tracks sticking out.
My opinion re: the new one was that a large chunk of it was a snoozefest also, but I'm slowly coming around to some of the more unremarkable tracks.

I've only listened to it like twice so I'm sure it will grow on me. Like half the album was amazing on first blush, the rest felt boring and I was more impressed by Permanent Radiant overall

Idk, I still jam it. It's pretty decent, though I was expecting more striking highlights. Other than 1 or 2 tracks, can't really say there's anything unlikeable on it.

it's not unlikeable, it's just okay

New one is okay, but I might be in the minority and missing the aggressive tracks that were in this one.
Also new one is just too long, they should have cut a couple of tracks. it gets very samey midway through it. I guess some will call it consistency, some will call it boredom. For me they needed a second Big Youth here and there to pump up the vibes. It's not a bad disc but it's also a sort of "wasted" potential in my head, I expected a bit more

they took such a long leave of absence that I don't mind. At this point I'm just happy when Chino side-projects see the light of day

I think they maybe could have saved the best songs from the EP for the album, Sensation, Holier, Vivien and also Initiation in particular (some of their best work IMO). Guess you run that risk when you put out a lot of material in a short time span. I can't complain too much though, we still got over 20 songs in a like a year and a half. Kinda how it goes in the streaming era.
