I mean they're not mindblowing, but they're also not trying to be or really have much of an effect on the album in general

"I mean they're not mindblowing, but they're also not trying to be or really have much of an effect on the album in general "

the discourse about the interludes and Old Dreams from people like fripp is always so dumb solely because they are trying to compare them to actual songs that have entirely different functions its like saying this table makes a worse chair than that couch over there

See, I'd like Old Dreams if it was like 8 minutes or something, but 19 tests my patience and then some... maybe If I liked ambient music more I'd feel differently

"but 19 tests my patience and then some."

pretty sure its supposed to

"maybe If I liked ambient music more I'd feel differently "

i don't like ambient that much and its deffs long af and boring but the atmosphere and the tension it creates leads to a pretty gratifying release into the following section of the album and i'm pretty sure thats its purpose so im cool with it. same thing with the interludes like they are obviously not pleasant but they are there to help build tension. tomorrow, in a year is similar. instant gratification is great for some stuff but this is more of a journey and it's challenging.

this album goes to some really dark places.

never noticed it as much before, but raging lung is amazing. that whispered bit at the end is haunting. one of their best songs

I'd say Silent Shout or maybe Deep Cuts to warm up. Then this.

lewis' comment was brilliant, i feel like an idiot for never considering old dreams in that context.

yeah don't start with this; it's definitely their most challenging and least accessible album to date.
