sorry for the misquote, but I still don't agree with the sentiment.
'it's just as easy and quicker'
i think you're missing the point.

if you want to ask the kids on sputnik about an artist's/band's history then by all means go ahead but
most people go to wikipedia or wherever else to learn so
why do you think people use their phones to look up directions than to ask others. it's quicker and
easier.

we aren't books just because we have them either but it's the info within that changes us

i can imagine it being obnoxious if phrased clinically, but that'd be obnoxious in real life too. I've never seen anyone on
this site ask something like 'what is the history of this artist?,' though. There's a level subtlety in asking questions you're
not accounting for.
questions can be funny, show personality, etc.
anyway I'm done.

you want relationships with strangers here that's cool
but that's why I have friends

why not have both? What's a stranger, anyway? there are people on this site I wouldn't call strangers.
@zac thank you the more concise, elegant version of what I'm trying to say.

I like their other albums and EPs. And the backlash against The Campfire Headphase always seemed so arbitrary. People mistakenly thought that one was weak latte sipping music and tried too hard to ape MHTRTC. This one is so much more guilty of that. OOPS. It's "dark" and "ominous", but not really.
It also just sounds generic after so much other BoC-a-like music has been released in the past 7 years. They didn't stay on top of things or distinguish themselves. They say they get all reclusive in a cabin in the country to avoid musical trends, but I think all that did was make them fall out of touch. I think the album just qualifies as okay at best.

no one sounds as good as BoC so this beats all and any contenders

Squibbard I would be inclined to agree with you if this wasn't such a classic for the following reasons.
This cuts deeper than "weak latte sipping music"
BoC continued their own trend of offering surprises with this.
This album on its own merits is a thing of beauty.

nothing about BoC is dark and i will defend that sentiment to the end.
melancholy? yeah. somber? yeah. but not one track ive ever heard was dark. its just not an atmosphere
any of the music goes for or creates.

It's the disconnected beats, disembodied voices that knock about MHTRTC that could be seen as a bit dark. There is an 'end of the world theme' running through this one but the tunes themselves are warm in comparison.

dark is gothic/black metal type stuff. I guess you could also count something that gets excessively morbid, too.
I don't think I would describe anything in this genre as dark.

the disembodied voices are just for effect but I doubt they're meant to be menacing. and I agree with hype 100%

Death as a theme is dark innit?
Black metal is just silliness.
