Swell review, Trey. I'm actually JUST getting into these guys. I'll be sure to check this out after I get a little more acquainted with Mindcrime.

What was the site upon which Tate stated this record would never touch the sales of FU? He was right,
in a way, in that it won't utterly fail in such an embarrassing and obvious way. Strangely, while
listening to the new Queensryche, at no point did I have to sit through a re-recorded (and terrible)
version of I Don't believe in Love with a phoned in guitar line and poorly mixed vocal harmonies sung
by a hairless ape.
The real Queensryche is now standing up.
Dear Geoff - GFY.

Neither of the two are the real Queensryche.

Listening to this now and I'm not really digging it so far.
Redemption is pretty bad.

Three of five original members (of over 30 years) are still in the band. How the fuck is this not the real Queensryche? Bands change members all the time. This one has lost two original members in 30 years.

Plenty of examples of long-running bands that have just one or two original members still standing with their current formation.

It's like if Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson left Iron Maiden, or if Glen Tipton and Rob Halford left Judas Priest... even if the rest of the classic lineups were still intact, it would be hard to call them the REAL version of a band. I think I like this version of Queensryche WAY more than Geoff Tate's version, and it's a crying shame how far that guy has deteriorated as a singer and person, but I still feel that this band isn't the REAL Queensryche. Tate/Degarmo as a writing team wrote a huge portion of this band's classic material.
For the record, I'm not saying that it's a bad album, in fact, I'm thinking of raising my score up to a 3.

the newest Iron Maiden album has way more meat and heady musicianship than this, and that is far from a perfect record.
Agreed. The Final Frontier also has a lot more interesting ideas than this does.

"Redemption is pretty bad."
why is everyone saying that? song is pretty cool.
the final frontier > this ftr

It's hard to compare this to Iron Maiden. These two have never really had similar sounding music. They don't have similar styles.

To me, Iron Maiden has always been bordering on power metal whereas only the Queensryche debut can really fit that description.

You need to listen to Iron Maiden.
