Head Creeps is apparently the only pure Staley song on the album. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Chains_(album)

Yup, I think Head Creeps, Down in a Hole and Angry Chair are the only songs he wrote on his own? And all pretty god-tier AIC tunes too

Their run from sap to the unplugged has to be one of the best ones ever damn, i mean facelift is great too but from sap onwards it's all on an entire different level of consistently amazing, band was insanely good.

Facelift is sludgier

I always saw facelift as more of a glam rock influenced album, especially towards the last couple of tracks, which is also probably why i don't rate it as highly as their other stuff. Whereas this for me has always been their most sludgy record, this and the singles that came after it.

@Egarran This is still the record where Layne contributed the most you might say, lyrically at least. And if you're interested in more you should check out Mad Season.

Facelift is definitely more inspired by their 80s roots, but you could tell where the band was headed with songs like 'Man in the Box', 'Love, Hate, Love' and 'We Die Young'. Actually should mention 'It ain't like that' too. I still enjoy it even if it is light-hearted when compared to their other work.

I think Layne wrote the lyrics to every song here except for the ones Jerry takes lead on (Grind, Heaven Beside You, Over Now) or at least that's what I thought I read once.

@Pho3nix Got Mad Season 4'd, I like it a lot. But they're not AiC.

The more m/ in grunge, the better.
