Tue Madsen was a blessing to this band. He will be missed (unless they somehow get him again for their next album, which probably wont happen). This, Unravelling, DSS and Arche all sound stellar production wise

So, it’s gonna take a bit to dispel the affectionate nostalgia I have for the original release, bad production and all, but for the most part, are all the instrumental and vocal tracks here the same as on the original, or was it re-recorded, Japanese versions of “Glass Skin” et al notwithstanding?

Was it? I thought they re-recorded everything? Could be very wrong with that assessment, but I’m sure I read that at the time

Was gonna say Kyo’s uncleans sounds a bit more polished here, and the tone for the drums sounds cleaner.

the drums are the best part here, they sound phenomenal. every time the drums kick in in vinshuka, it blows me away every time on the R&E version

From what I read, the remaster has triggered drums and re-amped guitars.

Sound-wise, that makes sense, I can hear that.

I mean it had to be only partial for the instruments. The vocals are the same.

That's an all too common issue with modern metal records, unfortunately. As far as that goes, they sound more pleasant than a lot of similar productions, because I usually tend to like how Tue Madsen works with this style (he did the mixing and mastering for this, The Unraveling and Arche and the mixing for DSS, with the mastering done by Alan Douches in that case and a separate one for the vinyl).

I wouldn't mind the production found on some death metal records nowadays, but it won't be happening with this band, and they could've sounded worse (see TIW).
