as far as i'm concerned, this was the start of their decline......achilles is great, but they have soooooo many hard classics that trump it

ridiculous to think achilles is led zeppelins best song

Nah, it's objectively speaking one of their best songs. The technique on it is just perfect, Jones and Bonham kick ass on it, it has one of the coolest guitar works/solos by Page and Plant rules had on it too

"objectively" "ridiculous to think achilles is led zeppelins best song."

Ugh to both you.

You both sound so small minded here. Talking about "best" and "favorite" music while trying to say your opinion is objective is ridiculous and ruins all of the artistry and fun of their songs. With that said ranking and discussing their work subjectively is perfectly awesome and can lead to a better understanding of why people feel the way they do in general, which is good. The fact that both of you seem to closed minded to opinions that don't align with your own makes me think you both miss the point of their music in general.

As for whatever Titan is blathering on about, it's obviously not ridiculous for people to think Achilles is Zeppelin's best song since its a VERY VERY common opinion. I do agree with MrSirLord though that Achillies fucking rules, though I'm not sure it'd make my top 10, but definitely my top 20. Remember guys, it's all just our opinions. : )

Dumb saying that people use when they don't have any actual argument.

Think he's just trolling you Ars. Achilles is top ten Zep imo. Haven't heard this whole album though.

Yeah he's just being Titan, which is fine I guess as long as he doesn't try rec'ing me anymore Grateful Dead.

I recommend Presence though Clay, it's very underrated.

So many, indeed.

What I meant by "objectively" (I know music is subjective) is that technically speaking it is one of their most complex songs and also one of their most "originals", one of the very few Zeppelin songs with its own personality that doesn't sound like a ripoff of their blues influences

And yeah, you can't get mad with Titan, he's being Titan, it's like getting mad at KILL

But those are all things you subjectively care about (and I guess I would say I do too) whereas someone who doesn't mind or even prefers them to sound like their blues influences may feel the opposite.

Yeah, maybe it wasn't the proper word to describe my point, but the characteristics I said about Achilles on my last comment are definitely true imo

It is one of their most complex songs and it does have a sound that's more unique that the one you'd find in most of their songs

It's probably just the metal fan in me, but the proto-metal in Achilles is hard to top. Talking about the best Zep songs doesn't really matter when their best material was live though

Really? Songs like "Over the Hills" and "Bring It On Home" got a MASSIVE boost live. Plus their extended jam sessions are actually fun to jam to

But they had some pretty weak songs live too. Stairway is probably the best example of it, the solo was never as good as the studio one and Plant's voice could never do a good work at the final part of the song, after the solo
