Does arcade fire count? (as being rock?)
Isnt the indie revival is a result of people wanting more 'fire' and authenticity in modern music... Although i think it often fails at supplying any more substance than radio pop or radio pop, musically or otherwise.

I thought about Arcade Fire but I don't think they "shook up the majority" the way Arctic Monkeys did (although that was mostly in Britain)

Arctic Monkeys > Led Zeppelin
I don't think your understanding my point dude?
Modern 'rock' music in the mainstream still had an element of danger, inventiveness, rebellion prior to 2000.
When this album came out rock was nothing more than something politicians liked to drum up votes with the yoof.
Arctic Monkeys being a prime example.

I'm pretty sure Some MP or other or even the PM himself was asked what he had on his I-pod and he said the Arctic Monkeys.

I just think it's fucking stupid to judge the merits of music based on the shitty scene surrounding it.

"I feel like Wake Me Up alone refutes the point that this was pandering. Green Day tried connecting with Hot Topic kids by writing... an acoustic ballad? And how about the two 9 minute-long songs with five movements each? That's not exactly shit for the blink-182 crowd"
I was more referring to the title track amongst others. A band that has never once been even remotely political is now leading the charge against Bush? And oh, wow, what a rebellious thing to do post-Iraq. I don't know, it just struck me as them going "Oh hey punk rock is supposed to be, like, political right? Let's do an Anti-Bush song". It just didn't feel genuine. It felt forced. This whole album feels forced. It's not just the negative nostalgia I was talking about earlier, it's just the execution of every song. Even the better songs just seem like a totally watered-down version of older Green Day. It's like they said "Oh man Basket Case, that was a great song, but it's a little too rough for radio, let's do something nicer".
Just everything about this album reeks of disingenuity.

agreed and supposed claims of "ire", authenticity, etc. are vacuous and irrelevant.

Can't argue with any of that.
Ever get the feeling you've been cheated.

i don't think that was entirely their fault, other bands raged against bush too not just them. They weren't even the 1st

Basket Case spent a month on top of the Modern Rock charts and was a Top 20 song you guys should
actually fact check before presenting weak arguments. I mean, I agree in principle but don't try to
emphasize it with false statements

I agree with this so hard, indie started to loose its roots when a scene was slapped with it (liked any other music movement). I'm tired of hanging out with people who jam 3 min cookie cutter indie songs to look like they dont listen to pop garbage but then get restless when I jam a 6 minute 70's tune
