after spending about 10 hours researching on head fi, im getting a HiFiMan HE-400 (Hifiman is a really young company that started in 2007) which is around $400. great open-can planar-magnetic headphone with great bass extension, apparently.

which is a fitting way to upgrade from my senn hd-598 ($250 rrp) cos i've been leaning more towards sub-bass music these days

Damn, that seems like a pretty good investment. I'm saving up for the HD25-II.

Yeah probably.

Just saying £90 isn't a whole lot of money for quality headphones.

the IEM link won't help you out at all - HD280s are headphones not IEMs

the portable headphone link might help you, but all you're looking at there (looking at quality and price) would probably be ATH-M50 or HD-25s (which clercqie is hopping onto). Oh and I've owned the HD-25s as my first cans, so if you have questions on the hd-25s just shoutbox me.

outside of those two, I'd recommend denon d2000 (or 5000 if you can afford it but that'd probably be a stretch) it would probably be your /best/ option given your taste in music and presumable budget.

so if you have no aversions towards closed headphones:

Denon D2000 > HD-25II > ATH-M50

Semi-functional? Just the kind I need!

The HD25's probably have the best price/quality ratio you can find for portables.

well except i kinda broke the cables, so you didn't miss out too much haha.

yeah i'm willing to agree that its the best portable can, though i haven't heard the m50s yet.

It's obviously not always an option, but you guys are missing out if you aren't listening to stuff like this on something that at least has a decent sub.
