About Slipknot not being a nu-metal band. You can't say they aren't on their first three albums.

Considering their range of influence, it's hard to call Slipknot as purely and only a nu-metal band. This and Iowa are undoubtedly nu-metal albums, but even that's a stretch given the death metal, thrash metal, and hard rock influences in here which were among their biggest influences as a group. In other words, yes they are a nu-metal band in the big picture, and these are nu-metal albums, but they are fairly unique for their 'realm' of style. Most or their competition didn't hit as hard or as fast as these guys in their heyday for sure.

I'd say they're definitely nu-metal leaning very closely to the groove side of things

Slipknot reminds me a Lamb of God in a way; they're classified in a genre that's widely panned, but due to their sheer influences and above average music, they stick out in a good way.

I thought it was universally agreed that LoG are groove metal. Assuming such a thing exists.

That's what I'm saying; a lot of people don't like groove metal, but Lamb of God is a good band in that genre like a lot of people don't like nu-metal yet Slipknot is a good band in that genre. Even Slipknot themselves stated that their link to nu-metal was "coincidential," and that they describe themselves as "metal metal."

Spit It Out is one of the best nu metal songs ever. Fight me.

amazing album, and honestly I have no problem saying I like this band. They're not hitting as hard as they did in their glory days, but at least they never released a "OMFG THIS IS SO FKN AWFUL" kind of album like many other groups did, especially of the same sub-genre.
Plus, first three LPs kick asses, this one and Iowa being the best.

I actually like vol 3 most tbh, though there are some MAD highlights on Iowa too.
Heretic Anthem is fucking awesome.

agreed on that as well! I'm seeing them in four days with Amon Amarth, Testament, Lacuna Coil, Eluveitie, Corrosion of Conformity and I can't frigging wait!

Saw them yesterday at graspop. Shit was insane.

Oh that's so sick. It might sound like blasphemy but they're playing my city with Metallica and I could never stand Metallica....

Metallica are done honestly. They did great things in the past, but even when talking about live performances they're quite stale and lifeless by now

if slipknot played an acoustic show clown would just use chopsticks and a plastic water jug

Saw them Satuday at Graspop as well and I can confirm, they put on a terrific show.
