It's really not heavier. There are heavy sections like any Deftones album, but the atmosphere on this one far exceeds any other Deftones album. Probably has something to do with the Frank Delgado using completely original samples in each track.

I'd start off by skipping the first track on this one. I don't think it highlights the album well, and is especially bad at setting the tone for the album (even though I've grow to like the track I'd still recommend skipping it).
