No I know, I was imitating other people hating on popular albums. It is the sputnik way.

Why I will never enter the Fear Inoculum thread.

you gotta separate the music from the fans
hating on music is one thing, insulting fans for liking said music is a completely different matter
|
| |
but it's gotta work both ways - people take it way too personally when someone expresses dislike for their favourite albums

I was meaning that their first three albums sound a lot like heavy Rush in that it's quite pure and steady progressive metal, then this album comes out with more variance between songs and to me personally is less boring because of it, yet it has a way lower average sputnik user rating than the others. I still rated all four the same 3/5 but I'd rather return to this one in the future.
Then I listened to Scenes from a Memory again and that is just night and day insanely more enjoyable than their first four. I still can't rate it too highly because I still find this band too drawn out and at times cheesy, but I have everything after to listen to for the first time.
The Dark Eternal Night jebaited me so hard. It's the only reason I ever considered listening to this band and I expected more of that style.

Yeah this still sucks, but somehow manages to piss all over anything that came after black clouds

Decent album

If this album was just
New Millennium
Peruvian Skies
Hollow Years
Hell's Kitchen
Lines in the Sand
Trial of Tears
...it'd be up there with their best work. Too many 5-6 minute tracks that fail to differentiate themselves from eachother, and I really just can't do Anna Lee.

Agreed Davil, despite record label pressure, this is definitely one of their most "fun" albums, or possibly THE most. They weren't overly wanky and serious like on later albums
@kalk: Dude the BRIDGE on that one, it takes such an ominous turn
"His fiiiiiiiiiiiinal scene

Also, The Way it Used to Be is such a banger. Should have been on the album. One of my favourite Petrucci solos, and one of his best "constructed"
Also, this album is one of their best produced. All the instruments sound great
