I prefer neurosis but I love ISIS a lot too. and I wouldn't say that neurosis' best songs kill ISIS'

although it must be noted the comparing the two is dumb as they don't really sound all that similar

Neurosis definitely laid the foundation, but Isis kept the line moving steadily until they had a very distinct sound. Which is pretty much the consensus, I think.

early isis was relatively derivative of neurosis But they borrowed just as much from other bands like godflesh and no one ever makes a godflesh/isis comparison.

Well Godflesh did have a prominent electronic influence, especially circa-SoLaH/Us and Them era that Isis lacked which would've made them a tough comparison, but yeah, people definitely overstate their similarity

CoL and Isis would be much more apt

Well I've never heard any Godflesh. We weren't comparing them by sound Dom, just discussing the two in terms of influence and enjoyment so I don't see the problem.

"never heard any Godflesh"

Have you heard Jesu? If you like their s/t you'd most likely enjoy Hymns

Streetcleaner is pretty intense. I mean, Isis covered the t/t so that's how I first listened to them, so there you go.

that's probably because Godflesh never gets categorized as post metal really. even though ISIS maybe took some sludge influence from them, the fact that they're not usually categorized together I'm sure prevents a lot of those comparisons.

then why is neurosis constantly being brought up in isis threads and vice versa?

Rosetta is awesome, don't listen to all of the hate they've been getting recently. The Ocean rules except for Heliocentric and Anthropocentric, I didn't like those two at all really. Never listened to Fall of Efrafa but I've heard they're great.
