"Another song is called 'Fever Dreams.' I had to fight to get it on the album, like I had to fight the label tooth and nail to get it on, but it's my favorite song on the album," says Green of the album's eighth track, an almost Spanish influenced acoustic/ full band hybrid. "People just thought it was weird, there's not really verses and choruses... It's extremely experimental. The label said that they didn't really like it, and we said, 'We don't care, we love it.' And that's what is great about Atlantic Records, they are really great to work with and they respect our vision."
Anthony is really contradicting himself here. That's the only song on the record that doesn't have a catchy, slightly bland chorus that repeats 1,000,000 times (and it's also my favorite), and Atlantic wanted to pull it. To make things worse, the song is basically Mandala meets In Fear and Faith (with different, awesome lyrics), so it isn't even really that experimental or different for them. 'extremely experimental' my ass. They played it reeeaaally safe on this album, and it sounds like Atlantic had a big hand in that. Where'd the atmosphere go? This is singer/songwriter stuff. OLG was an immediate disappointment, as well, but this takes it to a whole new level of bland.

Holy shit, that's it! Elliott Smith's "Waltz #2" is in the same key, has the same chords and nearly the exact melody as "Spirit of the Stairwell".

Yeah dude, seriously sounds exactly like a 4/4 version of that song. I'm sure they didn't rip it off on purpose, but it really is strikingly similar.

i don't know why a label would fight against a song like that. guess not everyone values innovation and change.

Horrible album. The melancholy feel of their first album that hooked me in is gone from their music. All hail the era of the scene kids. Sure youll all LOVE this.

How reggae is relevant, I do not know.

This has definitely grown on me since my initial disappointment.
Good: Glass Arrows, Frozen Creek, Fever Dreams, Spirit of the Stairwell, Compendium
Bad: Get Out, Through the Desert Alone, The Longest Mile
This cd is solid, but it's somewhat of a letdown from what they could have accomplished. Imagine what a full length Saosin album would have been like, for example.

Get Out has overproduced vocals.
And I do enjoy the album.

I really like Get Out, and I would argue the vocals on that are actually the rawest on the album.
