But besides that the vibe is completely different.

edit: Another thing that I imagine(though I could be wrong) is that they have different techniques when it comes to sampling

sources. Animal Collective often create their own loops and sounds with their own instruments and then sample and manipulate

them. I'm pretty sure Flying Lotus directly samples from recordings, whether they be recordings of synth motifs or various

abstract sounds(of course AC probably do this as well).

overrated means that people say it is amazing when it is in fact mediocre

Yeah so overrated means you obviously know it's mediocre, and other people are just fucking retarded for rating it so high. There's a difference between expressing your point of view, like MJ did nicely in this review, and calling something overrated, which diminishes the point of view of the people who enjoy the music.

ElectricCity: Obviously you're overstating the comparability of two different things to make any attempt at comparison ridiculous. However, it's not simply an instrumental similarity that Flying Lotus and Animal Collective share, but a technical similarity. Sampling is a technique, not an instrument.

godspeed you! black emperor uses samples too does that make them comparable to Animal Collective? Ryan said it best with that statistics thing. You cant compare FlyLo to AC on those grounds

Well to be fair, Godspeed use samples mostly for an atmospheric effect to the already dense sound scape. AC and Flylo's music uses mainly samples, as opposed to Godspeed who use a variety of instruments. Perhaps using the fact that they're both modern artists who use sampling and sound manipulation so that the two are comparable is ridiculous, but it's not completely silly to compare the two artists. I'm grateful that MJ even enjoys Flying Lotus, he can make as many unrelated comparisons as he wants.

Yeah, Downer sees what I'm talking about, just because they have common elements within their sound, does not mean they are alike. They are both doing completely different things, so please stop comparing them. Also, sampling hardly defines Animal Collective and the gist of their persona. Yes, it's a technique they occasionally use, but they are not known for the samples used in their music.

MPP-era Animal Collective pretty much only use samplers in their music.

"Intuitively speaking, both Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion and Flying Lotus' Cosmogramma fall under the genre of electronica,"

MPP does not fall under the genre of electronica

I still agree with Ryan and Downer that the comparison is ridiculous. They're so incredibly different.

has influenced, there is influence? he even said it was misleading to say that. tbh i dont think they consider themselves to have made an electronica album from any of that.

I know you meant the genre name, but it's really funny looking at that post out of context.
