Just saying it took me a while to 'get' Animal Collective. I owned 'Feels' for years and it never went above the level of 'good' until I understood its place in the context of their work as a whole. There are all manner of subtleties in operation.



If you approach their stuff with a 'knock me sideways with your craziness then chaps' you are going to be disappointed because, believe it or not, AnCo are a band of subtle pleasures and hidden depths lol

How do you mean by 'forced'? I'd get how you might think this is forced given that it is meticulously crafted, not having the same 'off the cuff' and natural impression of, say, Ween. Calling it forced in the sense of not being genuine, or some sort of claim that they feel like they are being weird for the sake of weirdness, is hard for me to understand.



Irritating is a criticism I can more easily understand; if you're not digging the glitchy mushy instrumentation and vocal mix then you just aren't, maybe come back to it later

I think it's weird. Whenever I show anyone AnCo that isn't familiar with them I warn them that it's weird, but then they probably don't listen to anything remotely weird at all so... yeah.
