I do love this album. The acoustic passage in Ghost of Perdition feels much too long though... Isolation Years is just awesome.

Re-listening to all my Opeth album.
"Ghost of Perdition" & "Reverie/Harlequin Forest" are SOOOO good.

Ghost of Perdition is the highlight of the album for me. Rest is still pretty amazing, particularly Reverie/Harlequin Forest.

The Grand Conjuration would be a highlight if it was about 7 minutes long. Everything after that bores me to no end.

The Grand Conjuration rules for that awesome main riff.

Just picked this up along with a The Fray CD lol. I see why this is one of the most hyped bands on this site now...I wasn't disappointed at all. Quality stuff right hur.

I've been listening to Opeth ALOT more, trying to let them grow on me, and I gotta say, this album and Still life rock the house. Blackwater Park just doesn't do it for me. I loose interest in many of the songs really quick, but most of the tracks on this and still life have my undivided attention throughout. They just seem more intentful, like they driving at a specific purpose instead of just trying to force a mood that isn't strong enough like on black water and the Damnation/Deliverance duo. Orchid is solid, haven't heard enough of it yet to say anything else. Same with Morningrise and My Arms.
I'd have to say Still Life is their best IMHO.

Great review Shadows. I think this is one of Opeth's best albums if not the best.

Still Life Rules. I would say it's closer in sound/style to BwP.
Personally I think that's their best, but I enjoy this album a lot too.
edit: by "that" I mean Still Life. This Message Edited On 03.26.08

I love this album, but it has produced the one Opeth song i actually dont like. but the remaining songs like Harlequin forest, isolation years, etc are all some of the best opeth yet. cant wait for the new album. This Message Edited On 03.29.08

oh that song is the first part of atonement before the hidden second half(i dont know if a 5 second break counts as a hidden track, but thats what im gonna call it). its decent, but its the least enjoyable opeth song for me.

lol true. playing through their discography is like a whole day's worth of non-stop amazing music. perfect for road trips btw

I think this is overrated in terms of Opeth releases, but not so much as Blackwater Park. It's still a good listen, but has some bland moments in the middle, and parts which are too long for their own good.
