I really love some tracks on this, but it slips up on others for me. Think my favorite katatonia album is great cold distance

Really love Departer, probably top 5 song of 09

This album is awesome, don't know if it's still a 4.5 for me though.

I've really found the stand-out tracks to be Forsaker, Idle-blood, the longest year, onward into battle, day and then the shade and new night. The other songs are also great but I find these songs to hold the most emotion and heart. Especially the lyrics on Day and then the shade; "I will rise, Over glass cathedrals and let go, With my eyes resting upon the nearing dark". Really a good album that could have been amazing if a few changes were made.

When did you come to think

That you would tell me That I am yours

When did you think that you (Duuuun)

That I would give back the things you want...

I burned all the maps to reach you

That's how it was for me, but I find Onward Into Battle bringing up images of sunsets and other summer images.

I've read this review after hearing the album for weeks and I gotta tell this is one excellent review. I wish more reviews in 'professional' magazines were written like this. Agree 100%

I thought this was amazing at first, then it grew very tired. Then I left it for a while, and I like it quite a bit again. I do think this is better than Viva Emptiness, although it is hard to compare the two, as this one is rather a different animal.

As we get close to a year of this album having been released, I don't regret considering it AotY of 2009. I still love this album, it's become my most listened by them. The first 4 songs, New Night and Departer are just damn perfect, and the rest are pretty close. Good stuff, good stuff.

By far the biggest disappointment of last year. It's kind of like the new Drudkh album- so much potential completely shat upon.

Way better than the great cold distance, this album is consistent as hell.

The first three songs are amazing and "Idle Blood" is probably the best song Katatonia has ever written but from there things just plummet.
