Out of interest what other bands do you listen to?

Also it's good to see somebody that can have a debate without turning into YesConsiderably, welcome to the site.

I listen to a lot of local bands; Amber Calling, Sonny Loveless, Delamare...

And to a lot of smaller Australian bands. One of my favourites would be Heartbreak Club from NSW, Australia.

Then all the "emo shit"; My Chemical Romance...need I say more there...you have your opinion and I'll have mine...

A bit of metal.

A little pop.

I guess Green Day are the cool kids...but they are still who they are. They can't help that people see them that way.

Okay seriously.
How many albums have you written and recorded?
.....
None?
Ahh, I see I see...
It's gotta be hard to create new material all the time, expecially for a band with so many records already...
So...
Leave 'em alone!!!
I personally love their new album, as I am and forever will be a fan, even if they started bringing out shit to the likes of Fall Out Boy...or something.
It's making sales. I guess it's gotta be worth buying then.
It's a catchy as hell album with well written verses and lovely vocals.
Yeah, leave all bands that have existed for over 5 years alone. They must be so tired and out of ideas to make new music. Jeez, sounds like you feel sorry for bands so you buy even their shitty albums.

I just replied to a troll.

Green Day is one of those bands you think are amazing when you're a tike, but when you're older, you realize liking them was a mistake. They are most definitely a gateway band, I'll give them that.

mainstream music is in general, simple and shitty music

people who listen to pop and other mainstream bands tend to be easy to please, as a result, poppy, simple music is more popular and people tend to build it up to be the greatest thing ever

meanwhile everyone who has half a brain realizes it sucks

If you honestly think pop music sucks, you might not want to listen to most of your favorite bands since they ALL have pop influences. And way to make a generalized statement about mainstream music sucking - I'm sure Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, NIN, and legions of other bands could prove your point wrong in a heartbeat.

And again, the Green Day hate on this site is more than a little ridiculous. They've always been a great band not because they have amazing technical ability (which really kills me in that people think that's the only indicator of good music) but because they write amazingly good pop songs and Billie Joe is 8/10's of the time, a great fucking songwriter. Seriously, go write "Time Of Your Life", "Basketcase", "Welcome To Paradise", or even "Haushinka". I'll wait.

*Sigh* Or maybe they're just appealing to a wide variety of people. I grew up on Green Day, blink, and the SoCal punk bands and have never stopped liking any of them for what they are - great pop music that is fun to listen to. And hilariously enough - that's the only reason I need to like them. Even at its worst moments, this record is better than a lot of what's on the radio/MTV right now.

SylentEcho, fuck you I am not a goddamn troll. Our music tastes collide, and you're obviously quick to judge.

Ohh, and leave Billie Joe's teeth alone you asshole! Hell, if you were even HALF as gorgeous as he is, THEN maybe you could say something about how HE has certain flaws. Music is not about the appearance of the frontpeople.

Personally, I think his teeth are adorable. But whatever. I'm just a "stupid teenage girl with a crush"...pfft..

I agree with you StrizzMatik

Lol, I joined here solemly to agrue on this topic...

I am this close to listening to this album just so that i can have an opinion of it.

How are you not completely aware that statements like this lead to you being shat on?

Oh I'm pretty sure he is aware.

Idk, maybe some people (myself included) find that that type of music is fun and entertaining (which, in the end, is the whole point of music, is it not?)
I can't say I have any interest in this album, but American Idiot was a great pop-punk album, elitists be damned.

So shape up or shut up.

There's no rule against discussing an album you haven't heard, unless you rate it

I think there should be. You can't diss an album just by going by others opinions, or by a review some asshole wrote...

Everyone's music tastes are unique.
