New song, on first listen, was dissapointing. Especially seeing as they have been making this new album forever.

Boring album almost all the songs get boring after like 2 minutes and theyre all about 5 minute songs. It doesn't bug me when bands have long songs but when they're boring then it bugs

I cannot believe the criticism this album has met in the face of metal heads!!! I guess all the critics are plagued by the hipster movement, but I was pretty sure that was rooted in the faggy indie rock leagues.
Trivium dug really deep on this album, especially for those who seek it. This album incorporates some elements of thrash, and thank fucking god thrash is even in the modern music scene at all. I was afraid the entire world had been swallowed by pop music. But additionally they've added elements of black metal, and you can clearly hear the influence of bands like Slayer, Testament, and Iron Maiden bleeding through.
Shogun is an especially epic album for me as a guitar player, it's heavy, the lyrics are deep and blended thoroughly with the "correct" amount of brutality, and the album is filled with pinch harmonics and soaring solos. On a scale from 1-5 it's an 8 for me. This album was all I asked for and more. Yeah the singles were a little weak, but those are seriously the weakest songs with the most mass appeal.
Now if you want to talk about a real Trivium turd....let's start reveiwing "in waves" what a mainstream piece of shit.
But for all you haters out there....please enlighten me, what album in the metal genre soars above Shogun?
