But I gave other reasons for me thinking they boardered progressive, lets look at the post again shall we,
it uses some odd time signatures, it doesn't really follow any set song structure, it uses more instruments then just a guitar, bass, drums and vocals, the song lengths are an average of 7 minutes, and it's unique.
yes, i agree with your post now, that i read it again. A7X is a pretty unique band. having mixing multiple genres, so we are on the same page.

Avenged Sevenfold is no where near progressive. Maybe hair metal or Guns and Roses, but not progressive.

How? Mudvayne practically defines Nu-Metal, besides the time sigs it really is much different from basic Nu-Metal, whereas A7X is really not confined to one genre (unless you call them Glam, which is a mistake), they have elements from many genres.
EDIT: That was at Mudvaynian, damn I'm slow.
And to clear things up, I'm not saying A7X is prog, I'm saying they are close to it. Not extremely close to it but still closer then say Mudvayne. This Message Edited On 08.14.06

i actually thought of A7X as just a plain metal band, i never thuoght they sounded progressive, it just sounds really cool. i said that if a7X is prog. then this band could also be prog. (I like both bands though) And just about any band has more variety than mudvayne these days. i will agree with you Iluvatar
Avenged Sevenfold isn't close to being progressive though. Stop listening to justThe Mars Volta and listen to some Yes and Genesis, and learn what prog is without all the uber flashy shi that TMV and almost all consciously-known progressive-tinged bands use these days, and then tell me Avenged Sevenfold is anywhere close to being progressive. Same with Mudvayne.
I don't listen to The Mars Volta, I actually really dislike them. Mainly the only prog I listen to is Opeth, Dream Theater, Death, a tad Pink Floyd, Tool, and Rush. So I don't have that great an idea about it. I never said that Sevenfold were Prog. though, and you can't really define Prog. as a sound, that's why it's Prog. For example, Opeth and Tool are both prog, yet sound nothing alike.

prog. to me means you listen to the music to get something out of it, not just to enjoy it. that is what i thought i heard that Progressive was. i might be wrong, i am not sure

we never said it was progressive, we were discussing which bands were progressive, and how you cant describe progressive.
anyway. this band rocks and i agree with mynameischan on this
What? Death isn't prgo to be blunt, Opeth has had one proggy album, and Tool is vastly over-stated as being progressive. Rush was progressive, but they're the same thing as TMV, too much flash to notice the basics. Dream Theater? Same thing (they're also over-touted as a progressive band imo). And yes, you can define prog. Thats why the label is so hated by its originators, as they turned the term progressive from whats its literal meaning would be on music to a label to the sounds they were making.
Are you fucking crazy? Listen to The Sound Of Perserverance era Death for an example of their progressiveness, if you don't think Opeth is prog, then I can't really help unless to say LISTEN TO ANY OF THEIR ALBUMS. Whether you like it or not both Tool and Dream Theater are Prog, and it'd be foolish to call them anything else. Same with Rush, they were and are one of the biggest names in Prog music. And you can't really define Proggressive music, because it's all about destroying the limitation put on popular and normal music. You can't tell me any of those bands sounds similar, and if they do you need to get your ears checked.
I'll agree that A7X isn't prog, I've said that from the beginning, can we just stop this argument. This Message Edited On 08.15.06

Yeah, Shadows did do pretty bad on that album, he was almost never in key, and he even had trouble with the harmonies. But I think his drumming was neccesarily better, more unique then anything.

avenged sevenfold sucks so bad now, no screaming at all... how could he rip his vocal cords if he barely screamed on the last album, bands like as i lay dying and converge do it all the time... just wow... this ablum is so bad

He ripped his vocal chords because he screamed incorrectly. And no, this album is not bad. Listen to some of the guitar harmonies, then run back to your As I Lay Dying and see if they can do even close to as well.

I wasn't necessairily saying that Avenged Sevenfold are better just because they harmonize, but they're better because the harmonies are really good.

Did you ever hear their first album?
And also music doesn't NEED screaming to be good.

I agree with SCREAM! on this one. Im not a fan of A7X, but i think this is thier best album. Its seems well thought out and better organized than Waking the Fallen. I like Matts sung voice better than his screams anyway.

I would much rather listen to this than Waking the Falling. IMO everything is better on this album. The guitars, the drums, the vocals are all better than WTF.
I gave this album a 2 cause their are alot of Meh tracks on it and alot of the Meh tracks are really long, which doesnt make for a very good album.
|
| |
THERE ARE NO MEH TRACKS ON THIS ALBUM!
