@Prolapse

Can't determine the hate for this album. Calculating Infinity created a mystical aura that has never really existed.

eh... i love DEP, but most of what they do is hype. check out all these little fan boy circles and all of a sudden its cool to force yourself to listen to something

you ever go on other album review sites? for some reason they all have sort of a 'hive' mentality. (for lack of a better term). there will be a band that, if you were honest with yourself, you wouldn't listen to... but everyone on the site worships it, so you claim you love it too.

i just think its funny. popular opinion shapes our tastes pretty easily...

that being said, 'black bubblegum' is probably one of my favorite songs

^For the most part. There is a degree of hive mindedness, but I think its on a bit of a different level. As in, if enough people say something is awesome, you end up listening to an album wanting to like it and its entirely possible to persuade yourself that you do because of it.

i agree more with that. but, be honest with yourself... when this album debuted, did you like what you heard? could you listen to it beginning to end?

Canatunaman I see what your saying here. But you cant really say we are "hive minded". I think if many people like something its probably good and Im speaking about Sputnik, not other sites. I got into DEP here, I was not that used to the music but I gave it a chance. And now I can see the brilliance in the music. This album is a great example of how broad our opinions are. The album review ratings go from 2 to 4.5. I 5'd Panzer Division Marduk, and I get flamed for it. Hawks 4.5's Cradle of Filth. What does that tell you about hive minds in Sputnik.

@encrypt: good examples...

to the oppposite tho: anything by Opeth, DEP, Meshuggah, becomes idolized because of that 'hive' mentality.

for the honest and true fans of the music, i believe it takes a certain amount of musical maturity to enjoy these particular 'popular' bands... and the rest of the so called fans are forcing themselves to listen because its the cool thing to do.
feel me?

@Canatunaman I suppose you are correct.However there is no way to know for sure what influenced someone to listen to a band. One band I think is hive minded is Converge....

ya man, converge is up there. if someone likes a band i like.... awesome. then atleast i have someone to talk to. i'm just picturing all those fuckwads wearing a suicide silence t-shirt because the popular kids in middle school harass them.
