Yeah vox are annoying at first, but after awhile it becomes pretty apparent how fucking awesome they are.

I love it when they get growly.

i dont get it, these box are basically varg. how can people be so harsh on them and praise his vox

varg's were way more straightforward; Gossard growls and whine-screams and does those gurgley groan-screams.

well it's what they make me think of

listening to some of Burzum's s/t and they do really remind me of Gossard. But Varg's little more raspy. Gossard's are much more expressive, too.

yeah IMO gossard is the better vocalist. and you really have to be realistic, like - there are definitely bad black metal vocals, but nitpicking the quality of black metal vocals is usually like nitpicking the quality of food at taco bell
you knew what you were getting into

some of them are just off that little bit to where they just don't mesh right with the music and end up ruining the whole thing.

yeah which is the opposite of the case here, where the super bleak atmosphere from the instruments mixes perfectly with gossard's desperate wails
i remember people were bitching about new bermuda's vocals and i just didn't understand

Those vox aren't great :p His best vox were on the demo when they were layered or w/e to make them more raspy and echoey. I mean Bermuda vox are better than Snbthr vox but only a little bit, but I do think the snarls mix well with those palm-muted sections fairly well.

This album is so fucking cool. #4 is my jam.

I guess I'd just have to disagree there, because I think the vocals on Bermuda and Sunbather are perfectly fine for the genre. I actually really enjoyed Clarke's vocals on Roads to Judah (I would, however, agree that his vocals have regressed). Mentally, for me, it'd be cognitively dissonant to argue Clarke's vocals are bad but Gossard's vocals are good

Gossard's never feel strained, though. On Sunbather it felt like he was trying to do higher screams his voice just wasn't meant to do, and they felt weaker for it. I also think his vocals on Kettle were horrible, and just an exaggeration of the badness of Sunbather's vox. Roads vox are great, though.

I mean I think there is a certain contrast between Gossard's wailing and the production on that album that makes them stand out, whereas Clarke's vocals do a great job of blending in and fitting the music (though again, I enjoy them both)
Not really sure how he has regressed since Roads though, they were perfect there

different technique, sounds like. Roads was more of a raspy, lower yell. Sunbather he tried to use a higher scream.

i bet that was stylistic shift for him to match the stylistic shift they mades towards a more shoegaze/dreamy aesthetic on Sunbather where the lower raspy vocals may not have fit as well
