i find it funny that people constantly fight over which version of Feel Good Drag is better when they're almost exactly the same.

No one's fighting, as there's clearly a consensus here!
In all seriousness though, as subtle as the differences may be, if we're comparing the two, we have to keep them in mind.
It's not like I'm going to say, "Oh the bridge is slightly difference. I can't fucking stand New Surrender's, even though NTFP's is my favorite song ever"

How are those two even related?

"the feel good drag"
this song exists on New surrender and NTFP in different versions

Really don't care for this band. They're good yes, just can't get into them

It's not overrated at all. Go away

I'll go against the flow and say that the version on New Surrender is better.

Bumped for awesomeness. Can they have an ending song as epic as (*fin) on their next album?
Actually a hybrid of Dark is the Way... and Cities would be the greatest thing ever, if they took the best parts of both albums

I really liked the lyrics to (*fin) compared to the minimal lyrics of Depraved. Also (*fin) was a lot more grandiose, with children's choirs, guitar solos, and a random improv section, all of which worked.
Depraved is still great, like maybe their 2nd best closer (tied with Dance, Dance Christa Paffgen). But there's a reason Anberlin ends their shows with (*fin) I guess.
Also I would be so down for a 10-12 minute closer, if they did it well of course

Dark is the Way is way too slow and cliched.
Good songs on it:
We Owe This To Ourselves
Impossible
Pray Tell
Depraved
That's it. The rest is just drag... drag...
This is just barely shy of a 5.

That's not true. Closer rules, Down is a great acoustic song. Art of War is nice. Everything is good except maybe Take Me and You Belong Here.
I really think songs like Impossible and Closer suit Stephen Christian's voice a lot, lot better than uptempo songs. Like Godspeed, A Clamor and a Whisper, etc. are awesome but he really does have one of the most beautiful (fucking all homo) voices in the radio scene right now.
If they took out the two songs I mentioned and put in the likes of Godspeed, The Resistance, A Clamor and A Whisper, or Reclusion, it'd be an easy 5.

Closer would make my list if it weren't for "Are you keeping safe disTANCE". Brutal pacing.
His voice is brilliant, but the songs that it's "suited for" are generally the slogging ones I don't like.
Fin is a perfect example of how I love his voice.

I think we pretty much agree, actually. I just seem to have a slightly larger tolerance for slow-paced songs. I love Down/ Unwinding Cable Car, and Inevitable is amazing. All of these are due to his voice IMO. Then the mid-tempo songs should be like Impossible/Art of War/ Closer. These should be 5/12 songs.
6 out of the remaining 7 should be your standard uptempo rock songs, with some variation (like Reclusion and Disappear aren't really commonplace but still awesome). And then like Lakes said, a 10-12 minute epic closer.
That's my dream album at least

I don't love Inevitable nearly as much as everyone here. In my iTunes song ratings it's the lowest.

I think Inevitable is sweet and super sincere. It's the kind of song I want to sing to my girlfriend
one day. I'm actually surprised by the positive reaction on Sputnik, though.
