I think the best moment of this is probably the first 90 seconds of the opener.

Stones of October's Sobbing, Bizarre Flowers/ A Violet Mist, The Curve that to an Angle Turn'd and Sleep is a Curse are also so good. This album just gets better with every listen

vocals are way better here (god marid's gift of art was like the most painful thing to listen to) but the songwriting is really meander-y and not in a good way

"So is this like a heavier Bath or"
Nah it's Bath's companion album.

True that, Stones of October's Sobbing and Sleep Is a Curse are up there for best Toby Driver tracks.

This and Bath are the peak of avant-gardish metal
|
| |
Generally speaking I'm not much into avant-garde metal. I'm very much ok with it if the metal has avant-gardish influences (In the Woods..., Gorguts, Deathspell Omega, etc... for instance) but when it crosses over into full on avant garde stuff (Unexpect, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Arcturus...) it doesn't really do much for me. motW on the other hand is something I could describe as 100% avant-garde metal, yet it still ticks off all the right boxes for me.

I actually prefer this to Bath just slightly. Not a single weak moment for me.
