that version would've been less out of the place on this album lmao
but the screeching strings are the best part of the song

Not trying to bait you, Potsy, I just don't see how Burn The Witch could be called a 0/5 song
I'd probably rank it in the middle of what's on here, so I'm genuinely curious why you hate it so much

doubt it

"but the screeching strings are the best part of the song"
not saying much because the strings are insufferable

I don't like it on the album, makes 0 sense.
In fact I straight up skip it and start with Daydreaming when I listen to this.

dont feel bad about losing your credibility, everyone on here loses it eventually.

The two-note string riff is like a twitching eye, evoking a palpable sense of dread and providing a great tension with Thom's reverbed falsetto. It is a very simple arrangement, but works wonders. Go back to your warbly In Rainbows piano ballads like damn

Who here has actual credibility other than like Potsy, KILL, and Johnny anyway?

if Daydreaming and Identikit swapped places on the tracklisting, Burn The Witch wouldn't feel anywhere near as out of place and this whole disc would flow infinitely better

Maybe. I wouldn't say it'd be a good flow but it's better than Burn the Witch into Daydreaming.

the fact that there are so many disagreements over how to make this album flow better just goes to show that this album doesnt flow at all which is a sin for a band as cohesive as radiohead.

I disagree so much, I didn't like Daydreaming that much as a single but on here it is the valium after a low-flying panic attack. The stylistic contrast that people equate with le terrible flow is actually a means by which the tracks compliment one another

That's actually a good way to look at it...

hmmm I can understand that interpretation, but the transition still doesn't satisfy
especially considering they've done that chaos/clarity thing so much better before (Climbing Up The Walls into No Surprises, The National Anthem into How To Disappear/Treefingers, etc.)

The National Anthem into How To Disappear/Treefingers
^ this times infinity. they also did the dramatic tension and build up thing a lot better with the horns than they did with the strings on burn the witch. considering there was ACTUAL pay off for them in the end.
