Agreed
I need my girl isn't even a top 30 national song [2]

that track is really wonderful but pretty understated given how popular it is
guest room is my fave of late, off this album humiliation and pink rabbits for sure

No song on here is less than great. Fireproof used to not do much for me, but even that grew on me recently.

I Need My Girl is pretty damn good so it probably is a top 30 National song tbh. I love the winding, repetitive structure of that song and a lot of the others on here.
Graceless is probably my fav on the album. Maybe Sea of Love too.

This Is The Last Time is the best National song on this or any other album imo
|
| |
lol I Need My Girl is probably the most generic National song i've heard yet.. Its not bad but meh..
|
| |
It is definitely generic but so so well done

Yeah it does have a really nice, winding way about it, and the repetition works well, but they have so many amazing songs that I'm not sure it would make top 30. Definitely top 50

This Is the Last Time, I Need My Girl, Don’t Swallow the Cap, and Pink Rabbits are probably my favorites. Really there isn’t a misstep on here. I think I’ve considered this one of my all time favorite albums so far by now.
I Need My Girl is definitely stellar. Yeah it has the properties of a pop song, but it really does do more. Being popular isn’t always a bad thing. I think it definitely does it the right way in bringing a lesser known band to light. The last minute really gets me though with the subtle xylophone/synth (or whatever that thing is) notes. They just strike a euphoric chord with me. Wish they’d have put them in the whole song and not at just the ending. It’s also a lot like Somewhere Tonight by Beach House in that it’s kind of a song a couple would slow dance to at 2:30 am while the kids are asleep to rekindle things. Maybe I’m weird but there’s a lot to love in that song. It’s easily one of their best, just as I think Somewhere Tonight is one of Beach House’s best (even though it’s definitely on their worst record)

Day I Die is my least favorite so far but still great
Carin is an instant classic for me

Really great song. So ready to hear the new album, all four singles have been fantastic.

At this point I'm just waiting for the album. I've only heard the other singles once or twice each so the whole thing should be pretty fresh when I listen to it.

You see I held back on listening to the War on Drugs in advance and I think in a way that's slowed my appreciation of the album because it's so long and impenetrable taken all new at once

I had listened two of those singles a lot and indeed they helped me penetrate it a bit but I don't think the same will be necessary for The National.

I've been listening to live versions of the rest of the songs but not anymore, because they aren't that high quality and I want to really experience it the way it's supposed to sound.

I've only heard Swallow the Cap from this album. Not sure if I'm missing any better songs but I might listen to this later.

Swallow the Cap is one of the best songs but the whole album is a masterpiece. Check it ASAP.
