EoS was a huge grower for me, and once it gets its hooks in me it stays in my head for a while, but it definitely doesn’t have the lasting impact of this or some of their other works. I think we are a little overly critical of the hunter and omrts, but those were also not what I wanted from the band. EoS and the EP hinds wrote were hugely encouraging though

The thing that kind of elevates this above a lot of Mastodon's later work is the lack of saccharine vocal melodies.
