>guys, can you please stop discussing ages in a "man we're old" sort of way when you're ALL younger than me, lol
i wanna just make it clear i do not think 30 is old! nor do i think anyone here is old other than user titan(jk he rocks).

I just think that if you don’t have this 5’d then you’re bad at being old.

Listening Wind man, what a song.
I might finally bump this. Bonus: then I can be 'better' at being old or something hmm (forgot about this convo lol).
"Fela Kuti straight up saved rock without even trying to."
underrated (old) comment

'Seen and Not Seen' is the obvious black sheep here. It's just okay. The fact I cannot name another is likely reason enough to bump this. The Overload is getting sneaky good and I also don't mind the gentle tailing off tempo-wise from the (admittedly barnstorming) first half. It's a balance I can work with.
On some days Fear of Music certainly presents itself as more erm 'fun' overall and has an awesome stretch ('Cities' to 'Heaven') but it also contains significantly more fat, if I'm being honest with myself. I'm not cool enough to have this anywhere else but at the summit of TH's discog.

‘Seen and Not Seen’ is a set of lyrics I periodically ponder even without returning to it.
It’s an outsider but it might not even be my least favourite here I don’t know.

James Murphy owes some of his early career to that song

okay kinda scrap ^ my former musings, I actually prefer Seen and Not Seen to Houses In Motion now and maaaaaaybe Once In a Lifetime *hides* (disclaimer: the song is great, dont @ me, but I've heard it by far the most here and oftentimes hearing a single out of context causes irreparable harm)
The opening trio and Listening Wind are incredible. The Overload is a big grower. I might finally bump this (2).

Seen and Not Seen should've been the closer

in what sense cylinder, as in are you omitting anything or just rearranging?
That’s a fair bet. Nowt wrong with that mind.
|
| |
just rearranging. i just think that curious space left hovering after the unanswered "he wonders if he too might've made a similar mistake..." would've been the perfect way to the end the album. all this exploration just to end with a question, yknow? would've been a fun twist i think.

rearranging is forgivable, phew 😮💨 …
Cos when you said ‘closer’ I was fearful of The Overload potentially getting binned (I do also like its placement here but that’s a minor(er?) gripe. Fair.

Oh shit. Updating a slightly older perspective Once In A Lifetime is fuuuuucking EVERYWHERE in the U.K… heard it twice in different bars, no other song has been duplicated.
I will never 5 this (probably a 4.5) for this reason. Such a shame.

your attitude is questionable, I have many 5s that contain songs frequently played in pubs around the World
but it is a good justification for not 5-ing any Oasis/Blur album, so I get it

Exactly! Oasis or (classic) ABBA are unlistenable for this very reason lol
Honestly, it’s so bad now it’s ridiculous. Maybe it’s just where I hang out but when you hear multiple The Cure, Blur, The Smiths / Morrissey tracks etc. but only ever one TH song, it’s very annoying.
P.S. Weirdly, I did hear Spellbound by the Banshees which was cool af (rare when out and and about!)

funny about the Banshees, when I went to US for the first time and arrived to my very first bar on the first night, they played one of their songs
don't remember which one, but it made a very nice welcome impression
(and then I talked to a random guy and said I just arrived to the country, and he bought me a drink)
