my main issue with this one, lovely as it is, just as is my problem with Villains is that Queens have their own sound, or at least had.. that is a tough thing to pull off, and Homme did it.. no other band sounded like them.. LC is essentially Zep, Queen and Ziggy pulled through the Queens filter, and that's a grand thing to emulate, but I reckon they were just about the last band in the world who needed to do that.. and the more I listen to Villains, the less I like it..

I Appear Missing is incredible, might actually be my favourite QOTSA song & that's coming from someone who's been listening to them for 15 years. I just love they way it builds & builds without ever overdoing it, epic but in the best way possible.
I think all their material has it's own vibe no matter where the influences may have come from, although I don't dig that new single (haven't heard the album yet, waiting for release).

Villains is great, takes a few listens to sink in but it's got so many strengths and isn't really all that different from their other stuff. It's still Josh Homme doing Josh Homme

Holy shit, The Evil Has Landed is fuckin awesome. I love how it's TCV for 75% and then changes to an old school garage rock sound for the ending. Good job damn

"Feet", "Fortress", "Hideaway", "Villains" are 5/5
"Un-Reborn", "Evil" are 4/5
"Used to Do", "Animals", "Head" are 3/5
Overall a 4, awesome album, flows well, the production fits the songs and stays consistent. Loving the Bowie, Iggy Pop vibes throughout. The album is a lot more subtle and mellow than I expected, for some reason I expected sledge-hammer party songs.
Right now: LC>SftD>Rated R/Villains>Lullabies>s/t>EV
