Hessian Peel is incredible, my fav on this.

Burden lets this album down IMO. Coil is by far much more beautiful.
Hessian peel is like the backwards Opeth song. Soft, acoustic majority with a heavy middle section

Ha, we don't see us two agreeing in many things. We have to celebrate! ;)

I love Hessian Peel.
A typical Opeth track anyway. Soft, acoustic and heavy in one track.

The backwards but typical opeth track.
When those growls hit hard in that song...

When their mother dies
And in the autumn of their liiiiiiiives
Will they feel the same?

@Choccy: Really suprised you think Porcelain Heart is better the Burden (note I really like Burden). Why do you?
@Mythodea: Party! :D

Hessian Peel rules yeah.
Burden kinda sucks.

@calculatingInfinity: Not sure. Burden isn't a bad track by all means but it just drags on and on and doesn't have the beauty that Coil does. Porcelain heart was a huge grower. Love how it just flows without much consideration of anything before it and is just one of the more interesting Opeth tracks, compositionally. The acoustic part at the end is pretty cool too

I must say that I really love the guitar work on Burden. Hate the downtuning part though, oh well.

Burden just offers nothing of interest, it's a relatively well written simple song and has decent melody I guess but idk it's just seems pretty average.

I love the down tuning - maybe I'm the only one in here - and the work on keyboards too. I don't like Porcelain Heart because it seems repetitive and, despite the acoustic interlude, I think it's a bit hastily done. Heavy and light parts interchange with that awful guitar solo. nananananaananananaNANANANANANA DUN DUN DUN!

Burden is too melodramatic

"I love the down tuning - maybe I'm the only one in here"
Na I love it too :]. For me Burden definitely isn't the best on the album, but it's the one that shocks me the most because it shouldn't work. It's a jack of all trades song, displaying many sides to Opeth (the organ solo/Prog influence, the sad/melodramatic lyrics, the bombastic nature, fading away through a segment which hasn't be used in the song before) and that's what I really like about it. Despite it being a paradox of a track (mainly in the argument Choccy has which is its not beautiful enough despite it's evident attempt) it's just Opeth jamming with all these ideas with a bombast and swagger which isn't present in most of their discography, with each individual idea being executed brilliantly when taken as their own. I can see why some don't like it but to me it's a great track, showing many sides to Opeth and the shear bombast and ambition makes up for its slightly ham handed execution.
