Thoughts on the new Left To Die project releasing a full album? The single sure sounds like Death. Like it you told me it was AI generated based on Death's discog, I'd believe you. Still rules though. I caught the Death To All group on the original touring loop and it was an entirely different set of musicians though

EDIT - just realised these are all Death demos re-used lol. makes sense

Pretty sure this and Symbolic are the only ones I do own on vinyl. I'll definitely have to complete the collection at some point, though sadly I don't collect records as often as I used to

Also, my Symbolic one might be fucked, because I had to put it in storage before going on deployment. Wouldn't be surprised if the Bakersfield heat melted all my records at this point

48383/5 seems low

But yeah

Left to Die putting out a full project is actually very cool. It’s been discussed to death (ha) but they’re a tribute band doing things the right way. They make it clear who they are and what they’re doing and it never really feels like a cash grab. It feels like a bunch of guys that are very passionate about the music they helped create and, most of all, respectful to Chuck and his legacy.

I’ll probably just wait until the full album drops to listen to anything original, but I’m actually excited to hear it. A lot of great music this year.

you might already know this, but the full length is just rerecordings of unreleased and demo death tracks. so nothing actually original.

but yes, i do like their approach much more than what bands like gruesome are doing, which feels very icky and not respectful at all.

No I didn’t know that! Okay, well I’m glad I know what to expect now. I guess I just hope the production is solid, I don’t really see any other way it could turn out badly.

Left to die was a good show. Music like Deaths deserves to be played live and they handled it really competently and respectfully.

That’s a big part of it for me too, whether it’s them or Death to All… I dunno I’d just really love to see anything by Death live.

the concept of bands like Gruesome make no sense. how does copying an entire bands discography gain you much respect outside of a novelty act. unless it's for money.

why is this so underrated compared to the other big three

Significantly more technical and less "catchy" in popular music terms than symbolic

But by "other big three" do u mean human, symbolic and tsop?

Yeah, I'm assuming he's referring to the other "prog-Death" albums (though I'd argue SH also belongs in that conversation to some extent). But as beloved as ITP is, I do agree that it's the most underappreciated of their final run

I need to work on re-(re)-doing my Death ratings after nerfing everything in existence. I've had this a notch above Human for many years but always below Symbolic. Last time I checked this was still the case. Symbolic contains a significant gateway / nostalgia boost cos yeah the 'catchiness' made it easier to get into, so revisiting it always put a smile on my face. So many quotable lines too (not that Chuck doesn't have more than his fair share littered around their discog elsewhere).
