I wonder where this would rank for me if it came out in a different time. I kind of feel like they've vastly gotten better at making cohesive flowing albums (even if some of them weren't very good) and that it's really evident here. But it's hard for me to place it above any of the albums that I liked as a kid because even though I can take a step back and admire this, it's just such a far cry from the vibes I generally seek these days so it's kind of like looking at it from the outside. Their older albums have that element of childhook attachment that gives them an edge.

yeah this is like all of the best things they've done over the last decade wound into one tightly knit package. there are only 2 gripes i have: 1) it's too short! and 2) it's not especially huge on choruses, but what it lacks there it more than makes up for in textures and atmosphere.

It has textures and atmosphere sure but I wish it was at least a little bit more off-kilter. My favorite stuff they’ve done plays around with odd time and cool rhythm changes, and that’s pretty lacking here. The only song that had a really significant time change is the title track, Urantia tricked me into thinking it’d be way more whack with that opening riff but it settles into a pretty boring groove very quickly.

agreed with potsy and gyro

it’s been 20 years for me since I discovered them, but seeing how this’ll be just as relevant to me today as the albums back then were at their respective eras I can give this the time to grow as I did for the rest.

I’ll give it a year or so til I care enough to rank this.

not many bands I’d do the same for unless they stay consistent (i.e. imo Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Meshuggah)

I feel like they haven't really done that since DE, and even then it wasn't as prominent as say SNW

@kevbogs their albums since Diamond Eyes have at least had a couple of tracks that did that, Leathers and Poltergeist come to mind from KNY and Doomed User and Geometric Headdress from Gore. This one feels like it could use at least a couple of spots where they mix it up a bit

Rapture and Rats are about as tasteful as their off timing really got

that's a fair point, Ohms definitely isn't heavily relied on those odd time signatures that kinda went hand-in-hand with their nu-metal stuff. even the one's that kinda do like TLID and Radiant City is just Chino doing his typical breathy scream
