Some people just have a shit-on-Metallica-fetish and we should respect that.

Shitting on Metallica is not cool. Ride the Lightning is pretty much a thrash classic.

It's my least favourite of the first four Metallica albums. Hardly even a contest.

The debut is my least favorite, despite being an absolute jam

Debut and this have a terrible production, but you can't deny that the songs are fucking awesome on both albums.

The production is terrible but it almost works to the albums advantage. Something very cool about it.

Aye, I lived many happy years without knowing this production was terrible.

--Aye, I lived many happy years without knowing this production was terrible.--
Same. I've always loved the sound on this... not saying I wouldn't buy a 'now with more bass' version, but I'm perfectly happy with the original too.

That is the paradox indeed.
At some point some annoying dude heard this and said wah not enough bass and it became a thing.

The production on this kind of reminds me of Terror Squad's.

"Funny to see some guys saying they don't deserve being so big. 4 perfect albums and 3 great more albums is not enough ^_ ^"
2 great albums, 1 good, 1 meh, 1 good and then all terrible albums.
Hmmm...that's not a lot of good or great there. There are bands that have done much more and received much less praise.
Metallica is legendary and it should be because yeah, their first 5 albums made them that. But bands like Megadeth, Annihilator, Coroner, Testament, Sepultura, etc. also defined the 80s with their music...and they were vastly underrated / unknown for some.
And also, unlike bands like Priest or Maiden, they aren't relevant anymore. Their new albums and lives are terrible. That's probably why people are shitting on them. I don't really care about them anymore myself, i'm fine with their first albums.
