A have a love/hate relationship with A Desolation song
It's a fucking great song and I love listening to it but the fact that the And the Great Cold Death of the Earth ends exactly the same way as A Celebration... begins would have been such a perfect way to close the album

Nah, I think A Desolation Song is the perfect ending. I think the previous 8 songs work beautifully as a suite, an exploration of the more philosophical, transcendental themes of the album, and then it wraps up perfectly and A Desolation Song takes us right back into the mundane. The utterly human. Honestly, for me it's a masterstroke.

Thats a great description Ocean. it's an interesting track, especially the juxtaposition between the fairly uplifting instrumentals and the nihilistic lyricism.
Well I'm Gonna be travelling through cascadia in December and this will be on steady repeat.
