NPI is definitely better than this, that's fact.

I think this album is a great experiment into a different sound, but nothing comes close to noisy unwound.

I always thought these guys were some sore of "core" project. Must have confused them Underoath. I was very wrong and just might have to take a deep dive into their discog because I'm loving this.

Underoath?? Lord no. Lol they do have much more punk/post-hardcore leaning records but they’re much closer to the first or second waves of that type of sound. Not 2000’s core. On another note, I love how the thread is nearly all 5’s.
I also think this and noisy Unwound are equally good.

I tend to hate when people brandish this criticism but this album strikes me as a biiiiiiit navel gaze-y, too much of a Statement, etc. but it's really good and this band is great

I’m liking this more than before, getting around that melancholic density little by little. The best stuff here is pretty special (Terminus, Off This Century) and I imagine there’s more to come.
|
| |
nice. probs the only track here i wouldn't consider 'special' is Look A Ghost, and even that one has its charm

she never had a chance
she never had a chance
so now she's coming back for you
look a ghost came through the door
from a thousand years before
one of my fave off the album

the deadpan delivery of those last two lines is the best bit of the song imo, sounds fantastically blasé (lookaghost.). i guess by extension you could say that the lack of a comma in the title is the best part tbh

The album started winning me over from the 3rd track, so you might be right there Johnny. Maybe it just took me a while to immerse myself in what was on offer. Feels like you need to buy into the mood/atmosphere for this to work.
