Ryus mixing up worst and best with his post-metal comment, easily done

much like post rock, the best post metal albums are the ones that sound nothing like most albums in the genre

Panopticon ain’t unique enough for you?

True only insofar as Choirs of the Eye and Feedbacker are technically the best post metal albums. Lotta friendly overlap between the best atmosludge though
|
| |
yea those are the two i was thinking of lol + hubardo. kinda feels like cheating to call them post metal but im tryna be charitable to the genre

I saw Godspeed once and it was really cool but idk if I could ever jam that shit in my free time

Godspeed is great for road trips. midnight haul to coastal Maine is when Skinny Fists clicked for me.

depends if you mean gen 1 post rock, because that is a great template for creativity. Yeah crescendo-core defo ain’t it and became stale quickly
post-metal is a different beast and all of the “big 3” are quite distinct and have reinvented themselves several times from where I’m sitting…
Just because everyone else copies them to death doesn’t erase their achievements

Listening to Hubardo that band is such a joke. I mean I get it it’s interesting slow moving music with whimsical singing but fuck man just get on with it and stop trying to show us how artsy you are

I know you’re trying to be edgy but I low-key kinda agree. Decent, but doesn’t move me the way I feel like it should

I've been on a heavy Magma kick the last few days. idk where prog and post cross, but Kohntarkosz def has the right long-form vibes to cure crescendo-core fatigue.

“isis, neurosis, cult of luna?“
that’s the accepted answer yeah. Unlike thrash it’s a hell of a lot closer to their actual quality even if some people will rep other bands like ^
Fall of Efrafa’s Inle is my personal non-big 3 fave
Others do love Rosetta, Pelican, The Ocean (the went more prog later) etc.

Mouth of the Architect are up there as part of the second tier, for me (have their peaks ahead of a lot of the above).
