yes he has. i was too lazy to check before making the recommendation but felt obligated thanks to you, demon.
very different indeed, each representing a rather distinct touchpoint of the overarching genre of "death metal", i.e., brutal v. technical. i know there are "more brutal" and (maybe) "more technical" albums but this and 'Obscura' are sure the most cherished / acclaimed / semi-accessible of the bunch. figured if he liked this he'd like Obscura, too.

I love Obscura, but I wouldn’t exactly call it accessible.

Obscura is weird because the first time I heard it, I had only heard Coloured Sands and in comparison, it is not accessible at all. However, I feel like if you really enjoy this, you will welcome Obscura with open arms. Has a lot of that same bouncy-brutal vibe.

Yes. Maybe I am off-base, but I think people who enjoy 'None So Vile' are obviously approaching metal (further, "death" / "brutal" / "tech" etc. metal) with an open mind, and thus would digest 'Obscura' with a similar headspace. It's entirely my opinion, but I think 'Obscura' is more """accessible""" than *this* from a sonic level, esp. when you consider the "average" person who will be listening to either of them. It's not like your everyday Top 40 normie is spinning these. Anyone (still) trying out 'Obscura' or 'None So Vile' these days is actively seeking them out, and at least _partially_ aware of what they're getting themselves into - tonally, musically, thematically, whatever. From that vantage point, I consider 'Obscura' not only accessible, but a paramount example of the sub-subgenre.

Never thought I'd see those compared, but I love both - so your reasoning must be correct.

@tec yeah I have listened to it once or twice. It’s really good, but was almost too weird/technical for me at the time. I think I’ll enjoy it even more when I revisit it

@tectactoe: damn, you're making me think in here, this should be a safe haven filled with endless 'riffs ahrd m/ m/ m/' etc. You're probably new to this, don't worry it'll come.

I did actually find Obscura surprisingly accessible as a first time listener, more so than this (think I just dug the vibe/weirdness more) - Obscura has a very specific unique atmosphere I haven't seen replicated and the tones/riffs add to that alien-like allure. Essentially odd sounds I'm unfamiliar with resonate with me if I get into the right headspace, if the general vibe sucks me in I'm there, and as you say I definitely expected it. I prepared myself to be utterly dumbfounded, so in a sense the accessibility was perhaps relative to my misguided preconceptions.

Going into this I just expected to be hit over the head with a sledgehammer of brutality, it's taken me a lot longer to appreciate the nuances and surprisingly versatile song-writing.
